Porcelain Veneers including Lumineers
Two common options in the world of restorative cosmetic dentistry these days would be veneers and Lumineers. These are fashioned out of a thin yet durable porcelain material that lends natural looking as well as long lasting results. These two options are very popular for a number of reasons:
- Stain-resistant. Porcelain is a type of ceramic with glass-like properties, making it stain-resistant – an easy advantage for those who like to drink dark colored beverages.
- Repair option for minor tooth defects and imperfections. If your teeth’s surface is misshapen, worn, or you have small chips you are a good candidate for veneers.
- Covers stained or discolored fillings. It’s hard to remove them, but you can easily conceal them with veneers.
- Corrects color for permanent stains on teeth. Some teeth get naturally discolored over time, and using veneers is an easy way of evening out the color with the rest of your teeth.
Regular Veneers or Lumineers
Veneers are traditionally fashioned out of porcelain, are permanently bonded to your teeth, are not porous, and non-abrasive. Think of it as somewhat of a crown – albeit more conservative. You need to remove a bit of your tooth’s natural structure so it will have some space to be attached. Most candidates of regular porcelain veneers are those who are looking for ultra durable and permanent solutions for teeth that need to be covered – especially if there are a lot of them. Lumineers, on the other hand, are a particular brand of porcelain veneers. It is incredibly thin and does not require removing any tooth structure for application. Because of this, Lumineers can be removed if ever the circumstance calls for it. Most candidates for Lumineers will require enough tooth surface present for the product to bond on.
